What is it that you desire the most out of life? Is it a place, an object or a feeling? Do you desire power, fame or fortune? Do you actually know what you want?
Have you even really thought about it?
The title of this blog post is “Je Veux” – “I Want” in French.
I have named it thus to commemorate The Fashion Factor’s one-year birthday with a couple of resolutions for the blog. I don’t make New Year’s resolutions, but I do find it necessary to celebrate the years of your own life by endeavoring to improve on who you are as an individual, within yourself and within your community. Therefore, I have taken the liberty of seeing how we can enhance this online platform, and I’ve decided to start out with a bang and give you a sneak preview of great things to come!
– So yes, TFF is branching into video and we will be utilizing this creative medium as much as we can. The videos will all be shot and edited by the ever-so-talented, Tauriq Ajam. We are doing Lookbook vids and even foodie films. The exciting new footage will all be revealed during the upcoming TFF year!
– We are committed to constantly producing fresher content, and besides upgrading the entire look of the website, we’ve gathered more ideas for readers to enjoy in the year to come.
– TFF has a revised schedule to publish posts more frequently, on a weekly basis. You will now be getting more in recipes, restaurant reviews, lookbooks, trend forecasts, runway edits and all of your favourites, sent right to your email address – as long as you have made sure to subscribe to the blog!
– In addition to all of this, we are going to be more active on The Fashion Factor’s social media accounts, so that we can engage more with every single one of you.
In this case, our desire is to bring The Fashion Factor to scores of more readers AND to engage with the current ones (who we love for supporting us all the way!). We want to show you a fascinating world of fashion and food in the form of this little blog – we are going to embark on a journey together, and we are going to love and grow together! Are you guys ready for it?!
“But if you love and must needs have desires, let these be your desires:
To melt and be like a running brook that sings its melody to the night.
To know the pain of too much tenderness.
To be wounded by your own understanding of love;
And to bleed willingly and joyfully.”
― Kahlil Gibran, The Prophet
This look is something that I would describe as the quintessential fashion girl’s street style outfit. We love OTT, we love elegance and most of all – we love sparkly glamour!
An easy way to make your street style photos more ‘Instagrammable’ is to simply wear a tailored skirt that balloons out a little. Add some jewellery to the mix and you’ve got yourself an Instagram-worthy shot!
The faux fur is just beautiful for some texture, warmth and sophistication. Don’t you just love how divine the coat appears with the pink skirt? It’s like the two pieces were made for each other.
The whole outfit was really soft so I added a little edge to it with my ankle booties. This made for the perfect finishing touch.
The fashion film was shot in Cape Town CBD, but I requested that Tauriq give it a typical Parisienne allure to it. We worked alongside the amazing Lisa Gabriel, whose meticulousness paid off and resulted in these stunning shots.
I was really nervous to be doing film for the first time, but Lisa and Tauriq set me at ease and were very helpful in directing the video. The soundtrack that I chose is a nod to the great fashion stalwarts, Coco Chanel, Karl Lagerfeld and Marilyn Monroe. Watch the historical Inside CHANEL (Marilyn Monroe) video here.
I do hope that you love this outfit (and video!) as much as TFF did. Be sure to leave some love and comments below AND follow, follow, follow! It’s going to be an amazing year for The Fashion Factor and we want you to share it with us!
