Every time a new season approaches, I clear out my cupboards to make way for a fresh set of clothes that I can wear. Usually, I place the former season’s clothes in our spare room’s wardrobe, but this year I decided to do a closet “deep cleanse”. This involved keeping my bunch of outdated clothing aside to donate to charity. I meant to do this the previous year, but my sentimental attachment got the better of me. This year was different, however. I realized that I am hoarding my possessions and somebody else would appreciate and need the clothes more than I would!
I googled around to find out about Cape Town orphanages and I was really saddened to see just how many orphanages there actually are in our city. It made my task of deciding on where to donate the clothing that much more difficult, because surely ALL of these orphanages deserve it! I won’t tell you what I decided on, but let’s just say that I tried my best to divide the spoils fairly.
Anyway, I ramble on. My whole point of this article is new beginnings. This is a topic that I often reflect on because I’m generally at different points in my life where I feel I’m growing from a specific experience. I entitled the article “Step into Spring” as both a metaphor and a literal command. The metaphor refers to the beautiful Aretha Bauwens shoes that I’m wearing in this look and the literal meaning is just that – step into spring without hesitation and get rid of all the old ‘demons’ in your closet (or clothes!). If you gain nothing else from the exercise, at least you know that the clothes have found a good home, and that your home is one step closer to being clutter-free. See what I did there? 😀
Spring 2016 is the most romantic I’ve seen yet. We’re talking exaggerated frills, bell sleeves that your arms will drown in, bare shoulders, rosy pink galore! Popular colours include mustard, rust orange, white and those blue cotton shirts that can be purchased at basically every department store right now. The blouse I chose for this look is something that I thought would be very popular for the changing season. It’s got the slouchy, cold shoulder + the criss-cross lace by the neckline + those ginormous sleeves that I just mentioned.
Pictured is my favourite jeans right now. Yes, it’s “rip free” and it’s not exactly one of the more trendy pieces, but it’s oh so comfortable and works with any blouse that I throw on!
I do believe the saying goes something like, “the shoes maketh the outfit,” and my Aretha Bauwens shoes for this look are an absolute must-have for the warm season ahead! The gladiator cage design is perfect for making your outfit special effortlessly. Gorgeous shoes are really something I would invest in. Nobody will notice if you’re not carrying a handbag or purse, but your shoes are what’s going to complete the look. Go bold and big this season, with interesting colours, textures and shapes.
The Aretha Bauwens collection includes shoes for every style and if you’re feeling particularly in Spring mode, you can even purchase a shoe with a floral print! Aretha conceptualizes each style with her own vision of what she would love to wear as a woman. She’s got the most amazing range and I do recommend that you check her shoes out! I’m attaching contact details at the end of this article, but you can also check out the previous Aretha Bauwens post for a more in-depth provision of information about the brand.
“When love awakens in your life, in the night of your heart, it is like the dawn breaking within you. Where before there was anonymity, now there is intimacy; where before there was fear, now there is courage; where before in your life there was awkwardness, now there is a rhythm of grace and gracefulness; where before you used to be jagged, now you are elegant and in rhythm with your self. When love awakens in your life, it is like a rebirth, a new beginning.”
