Tucked away in an unassuming corner of Canal Walk, lies a foodie’s oasis that is able to gratify the palates of both health nuts and hedonists alike. This oasis comes to the rescue of fatigued and hungry shoppers who have outgrown the shopping mall’s otherwise mundane offering of restaurants. It even comes complete with palm trees, giant fruit bowls and eager persons who are happy to cater to your every whim and fancy! The oasis I speak of is none other than the beautiful Tashas, which I recently had the pleasure of lunching at.
Upon a general observation of this branch, I find it most interesting that the Canal Walk Tashas has managed to utilize its somewhat limited space with comfort and positioning in mind. There are three managers strategically situated on opposite ends and in the middle, which ensures that patrons are well taken care of. There is also an abundance of luxuriously cushy couches, should you feel the need to lounge about while you enjoy your meal.
As you may well know already, Tashas does not take bookings; only walk-ins. However, judging from my personal experience with the establishment, the waiting time is not unreasonable, and the delicious food more than makes up for it!
To begin with, I ordered the butternut salad, which was recommended to me by a friend. I requested the half portion because I knew I would be ordering more items from the menu. However, the dish that was placed in front of me actually appeared heavy under the weight of bountiful butternut, avocado and goat’s cheese. It was such a generous amount of food that I had to double-check whether it was, indeed, the half portion! The greens were fresh and crisp, and the honey mustard dressing paired wonderfully with the butternut. I would strongly endorse the Tashas butternut salad to anybody who’s on the lookout for a decent, healthy meal!
Secondly, I sampled the fish cakes. I was pleased to note that I could taste more fish than anything else, and it was seasoned perfectly. It was a lovely meal, but in hindsight, I should’ve tried one of the Tashas pastas instead. The salad accompanying the fish cakes also contained avocado and so I felt like I was loading myself with too much of salad and avo for one day (is there such a thing?). Keep in mind that I’m not exactly a salad person, although I know it’s very good for me – what?! I practically grew up on deep-fried potato chips!
Which brings me to two very important points: 1) I truly must have loved the butternut salad if I’m going so far as to admit that I did, and 2) Tashas also has a brilliant line-up of items on the menu for those of you who are looking to indulge in a naughty treat. I ended up regretfully watching two ladies seated opposite me, scoffing down the most tempting fried chips, all the while I had to munch on my lettuce leaves. And again, I must reiterate – the fish cakes and accompanying salad both made for a lovely dish, nonetheless.
After all those healthy dishes, I decided it was time for me to really treat myself, and I dived head-first into the Tashas cherry marshmallow milkshake with a salted caramel popcorn cake – WOW! I have no words to describe how incredibly decadent both of these treats were. I felt as though I was in sweet, sugar-coated heaven! The milkshake was loaded with real cherry and marshmallow pieces; a thick and creamy drink only for the most discerning of milkshake drinkers. I also loved the moist layers of vanilla cake that were sandwiched between the gorgeous buttercream icing and caramel. The ‘cherry’ on top (of the cake) came in the form of the fresh, crunchy popcorn pieces that were enough to make my heart sing. Sheer bliss, it was!
Thank you to the Tashas team at Century City for going out of their way to make my visit a pleasant and comfortable one. I utterly enjoyed my experience!
